They will present the results from a randomized trial in Sweden investigating the effect of antibacterial coating of sutures during perineal repair.
The main outcome of this trial was infection rates.
Infection in childbirth-related perineal tears affects approximately 5% of women. The PLUS study demonstrated that triclosan-coated sutures effectively reduce infection rates by nearly 50% in primary sutured CRPTs, excluding first-degree tears.
