Professor Ranee Thakar

MD, FRCOG

Ranee Thakar is a world-renowned consultant obstetrician and urogynaecologist based at Croydon Health Services NHS Trust and a leading authority on women’s health. Professor Thakar’s clinical expertise lies in managing pelvic floor disorders across a woman’s life course, including incontinence, prolapse, and childbirth trauma. An internationally recognized expert on perineal trauma, she was the clinical lead for the OASI Care Bundle Project and has authored over 200 peer-reviewed publications.

Beyond her clinical practice, she is a dedicated advocate for global health and racial equity, having served as RCOG Senior Vice President for Global Health and co-chair of the College’s Race Equality Taskforce. She holds honorary professorships at the University of Liverpool and St George’s University of London. In December 2022, she made history as the first woman of colour and third female to serve as President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG). Professor Thakar is also a past president of the International Urogynecological Association (IUGA).
