How can midwives contribute to a reduction in perineal injury during vaginal birth? Out-of-hospital factors and their impact on perineal outcomes provide answers that can be applied regardless of birth setting.

Hilary Schlinger will share her experiences and clinical tips from 29 years of practice, attending approximately 1000 home and birth center births.

About Hilary Schlinger

Hilary Schlinger, CNM, CPM (ret), MS, RN, is a Certified Nurse-Midwife (ACNM), a Registered Nurse and a retired Certified Professional Midwife (NARM). She has held midwifery and nursing licenses in the states of New York and New Mexico in the US.

She first became a Licensed Midwife in NM in 1982. Hilary attended approximately 1000 home and birth center births, and provided gynecological care for hundreds of women, before turning her attention to midwifery education.

Hilary Schlinger holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University, an Associate of Science in Nursing from Regents College, an Associate in Midwifery from the National College of Midwifery, and a Masters in Midwifery from Philadelphia University. For four years, she was on the Board of Directors of the Midwives Alliance of North America (MANA)

Hilary Schlinger is the author of the book Circle of Midwives, editor of four midwifery texts, and has been a guest lecturer and workshop presenter in settings from medical schools to midwifery conferences. She has served as a preceptor for numerous midwifery students and is currently the Midwifery Program Director at the International Institute for Health Care Professionals.
